MD solar tax credits & incentives
When you install solar in Maryland, you may qualify for these cost savings:
- Federal tax credit for 30% of the cost. You’ll get this credit if you buy your system or get a loan (not lease). This credit is available through 2032.
- Maryland Solar Access Program. Starting in 2025, income-eligible customers can apply for a grant of up to $7500
- Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) that solar owners can either cash out or use to offset their utility bills.
- MD property tax exemption. Solar panels can raise your property value and taxes. This 100% exemption of added property value prevents you from paying higher taxes because of your solar system.
- Sales tax exemption. Solar energy systems are exempt from MD sales and use tax.
- Net metering. Get a monthly credit for extra energy generated by your solar panels. Cash in these credits to reduce your utility bill.
